Awesome table set up and mood lighting.

Assorted breads with rillettes
*thumbs up for the paste*
and we surely did ask for more.

pork belly top with soft boiled eggs
drizzled with balsamic dressing. The
crispy pork skin mix with the

Food → Alexis, Bangsar

Alexis Bistro
29 Jalan Telawi 3
Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur,
Malaysia
Phone: +60322842880

Operating hours: 1100hrs - till late

Price: Affordable

Bangsar is an affluent residential suburb on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur, - an area akin in comparison with Holland Village of Singapore. Bangar is full of westernized eateries - cafes, bars, bistros, crafts, boutiques, etc. It is surely one of the most happening & popular hangout places at night.
Tonite, we went to Alexis Bistro. Alexis brings back fond memories of my university days where I studied in KL and Alexis was the hot hot place for hot hot genY dates. The decor is stylish & chic & modern. Serving "Grade A" dishes - a combination of Western, Asian, Middle-Eastern and fusion & delicious handmade cakes and pastries.

Warm & cozy atmosphere. Lots of tempting handmade cakes at the entrance area simply lure your heart to Alexis !
We surely over ordered - filling up our entire table with plates of FOOODDDDDD! As this is our first time to Alexis in about 4 years - we decided to order as many items as possible.

Niçois Salad: Balsamic dressing with springy french beans & topped with poached egg & tuna. Everything paired so well with the salad dressing.

Tapas: Lebanese pita bread with hummus & baba ghanoush. Is a kind of Arabic Middle Eastern dish. I personally prefer the hummus (a mixture of chickpeas with oils and has somewhat nutty taste), & my bf prefers baba ghanoush (this is eggplant mixed with oils as well - tastes a bit smokey). The portions were perfect for 2 people.

Tapas: The clams in a little bit of white wine were sweet. The garlic & chili are surely a bonus for I am a great chilli fan. The gravy is just so awesome ! Too bad we didn't eat the bread which was extremely hard. Omg - don't let anyone see us slurp up the gravy.

Lobster Roll: Tender & sweet lobster flesh with a thin coat of mayonnaise in a soft hotdog bun. Nice.

Last but not least - this is what I have been waiting for the entire night - this is the comfort food that university students crave for and hangout with...
The Signature Remarkable Tiramisu Cake

This cake is really soft, creamy & moist. Topped with crunchy caramelized nuts & served with a strawberry sauce.

 Thank-you for reading.

Travel → Makan Makan KL Trip 02072013-05072013

Makan Makan KL Trip

"Cari Makan" is always one of the main highlights when traveling to a city like Kuala Lumpur. It's surely a city with many food cultures, - anyone from any part of the globe can surely live in KL and live in the culture of their food. Here are some of the most awesome places I pigged out during my recent KL Trip >,< *nomnomnom*

1 → SS2, PJ (Petaling Jaya)

A: Selera Malam Hawker Center

Best for dinner or supper - serves various authentic local food - Chinese and Muslim.

(Clockwise from 1st left hand corner)
→ 1st: 六味汤 (or either called Leng Chi Geng莲子羹) → I really quite miss this chinese style dessert, is a kind of my "college-hood" comfort food.

→ 2nd: HongKong style Char Siew Chee Cheong Fun → thin soft skin with tasty char siew, simply delicious, made fresh on the spot when you order it.

→ 3rd: Yong Tou Fu noodles soup → Tasty soup base & awesome Yong Tou Fu with crunchy bean sprouts → perfect match

→ 4th: Grilled Ikan Bakar → Heavenly yummy, smoked taste which totally feels good when you savour it.

B: K.T.Z Foods
(pronounced as Gei Tak Sek, which in Cantonese means "Remember to Eat")
22 Jalan SS2/63,
Petaling Jaya,
Selangor 47300
Tel:03-78772499

After dinner, we just walk over to KTZ Food for our desserts.

We came here mainly for the "Tong Shui" (in Cantonese this means Chinese Sweet Dessert Soup)

(lower left hand corner picture)

→ 1st: Waterchessnut with sweetcorn → sweet but u wont get sick of the sweetness, is very light texture, strong sweet corn taste with "granule" waterchessnut. LOOOOVEE it.

Top right hand corner → Peanut butter soup → super fine grinded peanut paste. Very smooth texture, very mellow peanut flavor. SINFUL!

2 → Sun Fong Bak Kut Teh
37 Medan Imbi, 55100 Kuala Lumpur,
Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Tel: +60 3-2141 4064

Lunch time can be very crowded. But definitely worth the wait.

Top: Ginger Garlic fish head (almost every table ordered this) → waiting time is around 20 minutes. If u like garlic, this is definitely is a must try.
Bottom: Bak Kut The with chili padi is a must ! Pork ribs are soft and the intestines well cleaned and there is no taste nor smell of stinky intestines. The soup very fragrant, spicy and herbal. We drank up all the soup. IS TOO GOOD ! We didn't want to waste any single drop !

3 → Ong Lai (Goh Kee) Restaurant
60A, Jalan Raja Laut, 50350, Kuala Lumpur,
WP Kuala Lumpur, 50350, Malaysia
Tel: +60122599332

This restaurant is hidden in an alley way off Jalan Raja Laut. The staff are still using the old 1957 "retro" kind of signboards. Is definitely a very traditional kind of Chinese family style zhi char.

You wash your utensils in hot water before using them. That's so nostalgic right ? They serving crunchy snacks as appetizers. The Birds Nest is ordered separately and is so sweet & comforting.

Now - our main courses are finally here. Although the dishes may not really look tasty - but once you bite into them - they are truly addictive. These dishes are the traditions past down from fore-fathers of these chefs almost 50 years ago.

(Clockwise from top left hand)
1st: Fried Sweet Soy Sauce Prawn (the prawns are big. The taste is sweet)

2nd: Pineapple pork ribs (like normal sweet and sour pork)

3rd: Oyster Omelette (the oysters are huge - they taste really good, there is a general servings of egg and there is almost no starch)

4nd: Razor Clams (personally I think this is my favorite of the night, the spring onions & garlic & also  pork lard really enhance the flavour of this dish - when I accidentally bit into the shell - it was quite crispy & I could even crunch and swallow it.

4 → Pavilion Shopping Mall - Madam Kwan's Café & Cuisine
168 Jalan Bukit Bintang,
Bukit Bintang, 55100
Kuala Lumpur,
Malaysia

We only queued for around 10 mins to get in.  Madam Kwan's is serving a kind of fusion Malaysia food. Signature dishes are Nasi Lemak & Nasi Bojari which can truly reflect Malaysia multi-racial society.

(Top) Nasi Lemak → Normally I hardly eat rice. But this nasi lemak rice is full of aromatic coconut fragrance & also rice is moist and so inviting. Served with curry chicken, sambal, shrimp floss, hard boiled egg & acar (in separate saucer).

(Bottom) Sang Ha Noodles → Sang Ha Mien is a KL invention and people come all over the world to taste KL's Sang Ha Mien. Is a kind of Hong Kong cantonese style noodles in egg sauces with a huge water prawn. Like the eggy taste, and the half crispy & half soggy kind of noodles texture. You can enjoy 2 kind of different texture in same time.

5 → Lot 10 - The Hutong
Jalan Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur

This is a food court called Hutong - and is a food gourmet heritage village where the best of KL hawker food is invited to set up a stall. Offering the best of the best KL hawker traditions under one roof - the Hutong is a fast and easy way to taste KL street food without going onto too many places and streets.

Hutong has a super retro 70's or 80's feel. Nearly 30 eateries are waiting for you to try. Hutong - I will be back next time for you !

Penang Duck Egg Fried Kwey Tiao (this one is memorable: heat hot & spicy hot & a little burnt lap cheong chinese sausage - this stall has long queues, so be patient if you are planning on savouring this one.

Thank-you for reading !

Travel → Aloft Kuala Lumpur 02072013-05072013

Aloft Kuala Lumpur Sentral
No 5, Jalan Stesen Sentral, Kuala Lumpur Sentral,
50470 Kuala Lumpur,
Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur,
Malaysia
Tel: +60327231188

I just had a wonderful short trip to KL last week. I am so happy with my selection for accommodation. I am quite particular when selecting hotels - so I was glad to find Aloft cosy, safe & most importantly is easy accessibility by any kind of transport. Aloft is super duper convenient when it comes to commuting to and fro KLIA. You just need to take KLIA Airport Express (28mins non stop airport transfer - RM35 for each person) to reach KL Sentral - and Aloft is just within 5 minutes walk from KL Sentral Station !

Aloft Kuala Lumpur is under Global Luxury Hotel Group - Starwood  Hotel & Resorts Worldwide Inc. Aloft has 482 rooms which is the largest Aloft property in the world. Aloft KL was almost brand new when we arrived.

Hotel Lobby. Check-in receptionist was very polite & professional.

Our Room - 1101

Bathroom and toilets - big mirrors on our left hand side. We love the colors and patterns that Aloft chose. We love the glass panels and the overall clean straight lines. Very minimalist.

The bath comes with dispensers for soaps and shampoos. Actually i don't mind using dispenser instead of using bottle shampoos & body baths as we can know how much this saves in terms of being eco-friendly.

The bedroom area - is a huge king size bed with a nice retro mini couch !

We love the headboard art - this was a grand statement about KL and "cari makan" as in "food trip" ! How apt and how it reflects that this is the purpose of our trip !

Hotel F&B Outlets & Facilities
RE:FUEL

RE:FUEL is 24/7 chic open concept convenient store located within the hotel. Is completely designed by Aloft and fits right into the hotel lobby area. This is the place where you go to have a quick bite, snack & drink at anytime ! The store stocks custom ALOFT merchandise like ALOFT fruit juices, fruits, candies, pies, snacks, etc. We came here almost everyday to buy their fruit juices and store in our empty mini bar upstairs.

W XYZ Bar

W XYZ is a bar where u can have your cocktails & snack. You even can play snooker at the bar or hold a meeting. The bar is decorated with street artwork. We found ALOFT to be very suited to a hotel for Gen Y people, who could chill, meet, collaborate on projects, etc. Is surely a place where new ideas are discussed and formed.

Swimming Pool
Infinity Pool - I enjoyed early mornings at the ALOFT where the pool had almost no one dipping into it other than me. It closes at 7pm, but you still can sit at pool side and enjoy the night view. It is just beside Mai Bar, so at night - there are people relaxing at the bar and chilling on those pink seats looking out to the amazing KL skyline below.

OverallJust so impressed by modern & chic design of the hotel as well as good guest service provided to us. We will be back again to Aloft very soon !

Thank-you for reading.
